Due to the owner retiring and continuing health reasons, we have been commissioned to sell at Absolute Auction the Historic Whistle Stop Cafe' in Friendsville and many hard to find rare and unusual antiques.
Real Estate: The Cafe was built in 1927 and was a "Company store" for the marble quarry workers. They would go to the bank (that was across the street) and receive tokens to spend at the Mercantile shop that is now the cafe. This cafe is a reminder of simpler times, slower living, like stepping into the past.
The current owner was well known for his good food served at the cafe, and he sold unique antiques. This property would make a great restaurant/cafe, antique shop, craft shop, etc... Now is your time to turn your dream into a reality!
Don't miss out on this opportunity to buy part of Blount County Tennessee's history!

History of Friendsville, Tennessee: Friendsville was founded by Quakers from New Garden North Carolina, who settled in the area in the 1790's. The town is still home to a Friends Meeting house. In 1854, a group of British Quaker Elders stayed here while promoting the abolitionist cause with American leaders. During the visit, abolitionist leader William Forster died and was buried here.
In the 19th century, the Quakers wielded considerable influence in Blount County, and were partially responsible for the Abolitionist movements arising in the county in the years leading up to the American Civil War. Along with nearby Greenback and possibly Cades Cove, Friendsville provided a stop on the Underground Railroad. A cave (since filled in) near the Friends Meetinghouse was stocked with provisions by Quakers such as William J. Hackney to provide a stopover for fugitive slaves and later soldiers en route to join the Union Army.
